Futari

Outings

Everyone logs the trip's expenses together

Start an outing and drop the link in your group chat. Friends open it, pick their name and start logging. No app to download, no sign-up.

How do you split trip costs with friends when they don't have the app?

Start an outing in Futari and drop its link in the group chat. Each friend opens it in their phone's browser, picks their name and logs what they paid, with nothing to download and no sign-up. Every expense is split evenly between the people it's for. When it's time to settle up, Futari lists who pays whom, using at most one fewer transfer than there are people.

It starts with one link

Splitting trip costs: a worked example

Lake weekend: 4 people, 3 expense(s), each split between everyone.

ExpensePaid byAmount
CabinYou$800
Groceries and BBQMaya$400
GasSam$80

That's $1,280 in total, or about $320 per person.

To settle up, Futari suggests these 3 transfers:

  • Leo → You$320
  • Sam → You$160
  • Sam → Maya$80

Once they're sent, everyone has paid about $320.

When it comes in handy

  • A camping weekend, everyone takes a turn paying

You put the campsite on your card, Leo buys the groceries, Sam covers gas. Everyone logs their own, and on the ride home you already know who pays whom.

  • A birthday dinner the birthday person doesn't pay for

Share that expense with everyone except the birthday person. Futari splits it equally, no calculator needed.

  • Two couples traveling together

All four of you log in one place. Friends' tabs settle inside the outing; what's between the two of you goes back to your own ledger.

  • A friend who joins halfway

Latecomers open the same link and add themselves. From then on, share new expenses with them.

After the outing ends

Friends' tabs settle inside the outing. When it ends, what's between the two of you comes back to your ledger as a single settlement. It changes who owes whom, but it doesn't count toward your spending stats. An ended outing can still be opened, just not edited.

If you're the friend who got the link

  • Open the link and pick your name to start logging. No download, no sign-up.
  • Anyone with the link can join and log, so only share it with the people on the trip.
  • This phone's browser remembers who you are. If you switch phones or clear your browser data, ask whoever started the outing to release your name, then pick it again.
  • To find this outing again later, you can sign in to Futari. You can keep logging without signing in.
